Nields Return Home & Central Stake Conference

On Tuesday, March 15th, the Nields finished their Mission and returned home to Show Low, Arizona.  We wish them well in their future endeavors.  

The new Guevaras arrived on Thursday, March 17th.  It may be a little confusing because now we have two Guevara couples, both from Lima, and they are not even related.

On Sunday we went to Stake Conference in the Central Stake with Jan.  Wayne had to make a quick trip to Utah. We had fun spending time with her while he was gone.  President and Sister Marler spoke as well as President and Sister Coacalla.  We know lots of people from this stake but didn't take very many pictures.  It was the first day of Autumn here in Peru, first of spring back home.  We are looking forward to a little cooler temperatures.

There was a full house at conference.  The chapel and overflow area were packed as well as the stage.  They even sent Television feeds into several other rooms in the building.

Back home in Utah, on this Sunday, March 20th, our family and friends were participating in the dedication of the Provo City Center Temple. Elder Dallin Oaks dedicated it. We would have loved to have been there, but look forward to seeing it when we return home.

Bill met a Brother Frasier in the temple, from St. George, originally from Scotland.  He was here with his grandson, accompanying him to Trujillo Temple.  He has been to all the temples in the world now except the new Provo City Center Temple.  His wife does not like to travel so he always takes someone else with him.  He owns several banks so I guess money isn't an object.

This is Juan Jose.  He works in the produce department in Metro.
He is from La Esperanza, went on a mission to Columbia and was
married in the temple a month ago.  His mother, Consuelo, works in the
temple as well as his uncle, Hermano Pritel.

Last but not least I have to post this cute picture from the Laureles Ward celebrating the Relief Society Birthday.  I love their pioneer hats and dresses.  All these people work in the temple. Bishop Guzman is in the white shirt.  His clerk, Hermano Bustamante, is the other man in the picture.

Another Sunday in La Esperanza & Goodbye to the Nields

On Sunday we went to the Victoria Ward in La Esperanza.  One of the speakers didn't show up so they asked Bill to speak for a few minutes.  I played the piano.

Monday was a busy day.  We met in the mall for lunch with the Trujillo North Senior Missionaries and the Marlers.  That evening we had Family Home Evening and dinner in the Casos home.  It was a farewell dinner for the Nields and a Happy Birthday to Jan Haws.

The Nields came to Trujillo the same time we did. They were supposed to serve for six months but extended to nine. They leave today, March 15th, to return home to Show Low, Arizona.  We will be the next Temple Missionaries to leave when we go home in December.

We ate at the new Subway that opened in the mall 2 weeks ago.

Back to Laredo

On Sunday we went back to Laredo to the Laredo Ward.  This is a Chapel we haven't been to before. It was about 30 minutes from the temple.  We have now been to all of the buildings in the Trujillo area, except Milagro which is the farthest out and they meet at  8:00 AM.  Don't know if we will make it there or not.

Hermana Caballero is a volunteer at the temple. She has lived in
Laredo all her life.  Her son lives in Pennsylvania.  She insisted on
helping us get a good taxi after church. She wanted us to be safe.

On Monday, along with our usual P-day duties we went with the Nields to shop for a birthday present for Jan Haws.  We ran into Hermano Apolinario at his little shop near the Apiat.  We also went to the Post Office to mail a Book of Mormon to a man we met on the  airplane from Iquitos to Lima.  He is from England and lives in Cusco. He and Bill talked on the flight and he said he would read the Book of Mormon if we sent him one.  He has lived in Peru for 30 years, is married to a Peruvian and has a daughter attending college in Oxford, England.  He works for the British Consulate.  We will see if we hear from him again.

The Nields go back home to Arizona next week.  We went to lunch with them at Squalo's.  They had never been there before.  We all had Hawaiian Chicken, mashed potatoes and salad.  It was very good.

At 4:00 all the American Missionaries had to meet the office missionaries at the Notaria.  We had to sign papers and the church had to pay taxes for all of us to stay in the country.  Elder Olsen, on the right, has a new companion, Elder Espinoza, from Puno, Peru near Lake Titicaca.  He is a cute Elder and speaks fluent English.  He lived with his family for 9 years in Salt Lake City while his Dad was attending college.  His dad is now a Civil Engineer in Puno.

They recently hung these beautiful, carved, 3D paintings in our apartments above the beds.  This picture does not do it justice.  For the past 9 months there have just been two screws above our beds.  Evidently, they had these same pictures hanging above the beds during the dedication but they gave them to the visiting general authorities staying in our apartments. They are by Don Bosco.

Back home in Utah, our daughter Heather, is opening her own counseling practice.  She has been working with Summit Counseling for several years.  We wish her the best of luck in this new phase of her career. Our granddaughter, Sadie drew the tree for her logo.
