Gringo Loco, Botanical Gardens & Lunch at Alvas

On Thursday evening we went to eat at the Gringo Loco with Wayne and Jan.  We had met the owners at the mall the week before and they invited us to come try their Hamburger restaurant.

Gringo Lodo ia owned by Richard Brown and Jaqueline Suarez.  Richard is from Texas and Jacqueline is from Peru.  They lived in Texas for awhile, but she wanted to come back to Peru, so they opened Gringo Loco.  Richard is a chef so he know about making good food.  It's really hard to find a good hamburger in Trujillo, so they came up with Gringo Loco.  They have gourmet hamburgers with a Texas theme.  They're the kind of burgers you could eat with a fork, big and kind of messy.

Wayne had the Texas Burger with BbQ sauce.  Jan had the
Alamo burger with Avocado.

Bill and I shared the Double Trouble, a hamburger between 2 grilled
cheese sandwiches with carmelized onions.  We all enjoyed our meal.

Thursday morning Bill and I finished up our assignment with the Mission Office.  Before going home we stopped by the Botanical Gardens here in Trujillo.  It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed walking around the gardens.

Today we were invited, along with Wayne & Jan, to go back to the Alva's for lunch.  She saw us in the temple and found out we would be leaving soon.  She is an excellent cook and we always enjoy her meals.  Emma and Juan were some of the first members in Trujillo.  Her granddaughter, Diana and her daughter, Rosemary were also there.  Diana went to High School in Utah.  The Alva's son lives in Spanish Fork so she lived with his family.  She speaks excellent English and teaches English to Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade.

Emma made these beautiful napkins for me as a going away present.
She is the sweetest, kindest lady.  She said she will see us in the
temple before we go home.

Here are some miscellaneous items from the week that we don't want to forget.

Jan made her Jack-O-Lantern
into Tom Turkey.
The Comedor celebrated its first birthday.  These ladies cook for and serve
hundreds of people every week.

One of our favorite guards at the temple is Elmer Guerra Villanueva. He is in the Laredo Ward. Last week he came to the temple to do the work for his father.  He was later sealed to his parents. He asked Bill to be proxy for his father and his wife was proxy for his mother.  It was a special time for all of them.

In preparation for going home we went to the Clinica Peruano-Americana to make sure we had not acquired any parasites while we were in the country.  Luckily, we both got clean reports.

And lastly, time for a little Pickles wisdom.
