Lunch at Quintanillas, Bill's Ear & Halloween

The Palermo Stake Relief Society President, Hermana Quintanilla, invited us and the Hawses to lunch on Monday. They also invited the Haros and the Valdivias (Stake President) to come to lunch. President Valdivia speaks perfect English and was able to help translate our fun table conversation. These three couples have been friends for years and have raised their children together.  Joel Haro and Diego Quintanilla are the two piano boys who are best friends.  Joel just left on his mission to Arequipa, Peru and Diego leaves in March.  The Haros and Quintanillas each have an older son on a mission as well.  These three families are the backbone of the Palermo Stake.

The Quintanillas own this hardware store.  They own the building
and live on the third floor.
Their hardware store is next to their little volkswagon.  Wayne is standing in the doorway.
Visiting with the Quintanillas in their living room before the others arrive.

Diego played the keyboard for us.  He is such a fine young man
and is so talented.  He liked Bill's tie so Bill took it off and gave it to him.
He was so thrilled.

They prepared traditional Peruvian meal for for us.  In the old days they
would cook it all in the ground;  meat, potatoes, corn and beans.
It was really good and they served apple pie for dessert.

Kira, Diego and Samir Quintanilla.
Kira and Samir are wearing their school uniforms.
They just got home from school.
They gave us this cute little Nativity for a going away present.
I was thrilled because I collect Nativities and this one was
given with so much love.  I will treasure it.

After lunch we had to go by the mission office.  Bill has been having trouble with his right ear and we wanted to mission nurse to look at it.  These pictures were taken on the way to the office.

When we arrived, we ran into Elder Harrison and Elder Plazas leaving the office.

Jan, Sister Olson (our mission nurse) and Wayne.
She found wax buildup and redness so she flushed it out and gave him some ear drops.
We are hoping it will improve so we don't have to go to a Peruvian doctor.  We doubt he
would do anything differently than she did.  Sister Clay is her companion.

The cute office missionaries, Elder Carman, Elder Arenas, Elder Peak and Elder Logan.

Missionary coats by the water cooler.
They were preparing bug spray for all the missionaries, to get ready
for mosquito season.  They spray this on their clothe. The sisters will

also be allowed to  wear pants during this season, a
new directive from the church.  Sister Marble measured and
had black pants made for all the sisters.

These boards are in President Marble's office.  The top one shows the
zones and the bottom one has the missionaries in the order they have
arrived.  The ones on the bottom are going home next.

When we got home we found this man laying on the temple grounds.  Don't know who he was or why he was here since the temple was closed but he seems to be enjoying himself.

Yesterday was also Halloween.  Heather was in a car accident today.  It totaled her car but she is okay.  She was the only one in the car.  We are so grateful that she was protected.  On a happier note the kids were able to have a fun, warm Halloween.

These are the pumpkins they carved at Michael & Vicki's (Robert's parents) house.
