General Conference & La Esperanza Apartment Visits

We always look forward to General Conference and this one did not disappoint us.  It is such a treat to sit in our own living room and listen to the messages from the leaders of the church. This will be our last General Conference in Peru since we are down to the last 7 weeks of our mission.

We loved hearing from President Monson and seeing him with more strength.

The music from the choir was beautiful and they looked especially colorful in their purple dresses and ties.  I liked their version of "Let Us All Press On" in their final hymn during the last session on Sunday afternoon.

It was an added pleasure to hear Elder Juan A. Uceda speak.  We loved his story about Cusco and Machu Picchu.  His wife's brother, sister-in-law and niece (the Bendezu's) have worked in the temple with us.  Bill and I officiated a temple session on July 16, 2015 that he attended with his wife and other family members.  We were able to meet and talk with them afterwards.  It was a memorable experience.

Everyone stood and sang together..............................

including the Hawses in their own little apartment.  We love these two and will miss all the fun we have had together.

Thursday took us to La Esperanza to check some of the missionary apartments in that zone.
We always enjoy rubbing shoulders with the missionaries.  We were driven by Joel and escorted by Hermano Lazaro who does the laundry for the missionaries in this zone.  He was a great guide since he knows how to find all the apartments.  This is big zone so we were only able to get to half of them.  We will finish them up next week.

Elder Consuegra from Dominican Republic and Elder Colman from Paraguay.
We had trouble finding their apartment where we met up with Hermano Lazaro.
They are leading the way.  They live across the street from this park, Linda Lecca.
They are the Zone Leaders.

Bill with the zone Leaders and Hermano Lazaro.
Elder Herde from Provo and Elder Hiskey from Idaho Falls.
Elder Hebert from Maryand and Elder Spencer from Idaho Falls.
Elder Hiskey and Elder Spencer are from the same stake in Idaho Falls.

This is the stairs going up to their 3rd floor apartment.
Elder Mendoza and Elder Barboza live in the home of this member.
She has a little tienda (store) in front of her house.  We bought everyone something to drink.
Elder Barboza is from Lima and Elder Mendoza is from Ecuador.
He always tells me he is from the Galapagos Islands or I like to kid him
about being friends with the "Blue Footed Boobys" that live there.  Lest you think I am kidding
about the "boobys", here are a couple of pictures.  I think they
are so cute and would love to see them myself someday.

Sister Lee from Spokane, Washington & Sister Soto from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Elder Trellis & Elder Peredes.
Both are from Peru.
Elder Quinonez from Ecuador and Elder Rojas from Chile.
La Esperanza has always held a special place in Bill's heart since he served here 50 years ago.  The church is very strong in this area and many wonderful people live here.  We took lots of pictures as we drove around this part of Trujillo.  We really got a good feel for the area.

This lady was giving us directions.
Waiting for Elders to come to the door.

Small butterfly on middle flower.

Views from some of the apartments.

We had to pass through this area to get to one of the apartments.

Just some odds and ends from the week.

Some interesting fruits in Tottus, our supermarket.
Bill gave each of these shy little girls a sol so they would smile for his picture.

A sister with her two kids, watching two other children while their
parents are in the temple.
These two little girls were cousins.  Their moms
said they "really" love each other.

Utah got snow in the mountains.  We liked this picture mixing fall colors with a little winter.
