Apartment Checks & Chan Chan Ward Primary Program

This week we checked apartments in the Este Zone.  We were only able to see about half of them since some of the missionaries were in the mission office for interviews.  We will finish them up next week and start the Primavera Zone.

Hans Poma was our taxi driver.  Hans is a great young man.  He is turning 27 this week and works in the temple.  He served his mission in Mexico.  He also speaks a little English and likes talking with us so he can practice.  Hans delivers the laundry to the missionaries in this zone so he knows how to get to their apartments.  It was a good thing since most of the streets were dirt, unmarked and few house numbers.

Bill & Hans
Elder Casco from Ecuador & Elder Harris from Salt Lake City.
Elder Harris is a new missionary.  He came with his family to the Temple Dedication
in June 2015.  They were here to pick up his brother who was finishing his mission.
One year later he received his call to the same mission.  He is excited to meet
some of the people his brother taught.  His brother and family want to come pick
him up at the end of his mission.

This pet store was under the Elder's apartment.
This cute girl was giving her brother a ride.

The streets in Rio Seco.

The Zone Leaders
Elder Argueta from Honduras & Elder Medrano from Colombia
Another dog on a roof.  You see this all over Peru.
Elder Ramirez from Iquitos, Peru (the jungle) and Elder Perez from Chile.
The elders live on the 2nd floor of this building.
Bill went across the street to get the Elders something to drink.
This lady came up to him and asked us to come to her house.
They were catholic but wanted Bill to come pray for her father.
She must have been impressed with the shirt, tie and name tag.

Elder Linares & Elder D'Leon, both from Bolivia.

They both had Bolivian flags over their beds.

Missionary desks.
Hermana Butikofer from Georgia (she went to Utah State)
and Hermana Malo from Lima.

Elder Logan in the office. He was giving us Elder Espinoza's email address.
Elder Espinoza is now in Cajamarca.  He had a birthday this week and also
had an emergency appendectomy a few weeks ago.  We had visited his family
on our trip to Puno and wanted to send him an email.

Today we went with the Hawses to the Chan Chan ward for their Primary program.  The Zamora Family live in this ward and their daughter is the Primary President.  They had a fantastic program. They could rival any ward in the states.  EVERY child had their parts memorized and even the smallest child knew all the words to all the songs.  You could tell they all worked very hard to make this happen with the support of wonderful parents.

Waiting for the door to open.  The church is behind
this heavy door and wall, in the historical district of Trujillo
You can see the church in this picture.  The mailbox is on the left.
I caught this picture as they were preparing the Sacrament table.
They always serve hard rolls for the Sacrament bread.
It is much cheaper to buy than a loaf of bread. You can buy
10 or 12 for a sol in most neighborhood tiendas.  That is
about 33 cents.

This is a dusting mop they use to dust the pews before the meeting starts.

This picture of their primary was on display at the door to the chapel.  It was taken
for Pioneer Day.
Elders Maddocks & Latimer
Elders Martinez & Ardaya
Aman Vega came with his mother.  He was asked to
play his violin for some of the songs.  They are in the
Trujillo Ward.

did not want her picture taken.

They both work in the temple.
Jan took this picture of the children on the stand right after the program.
Notice the flowers on the pulpit with red, yellow and blue
roses, the Primary colors.

On the ride home we ran into another parade.  They are always the same, balloons and school children and adults, walking down the street, usually to music.

Back home in Utah, our son-in-law Robert celebrated his 40th birthday today.  He has been a wonderful husband to our daughter and a great father to our grandchildren. He has also been a big support to us while we have been on our mission, helping to keep things going for us back in Utah.  We are glad he is part of our family.  Happy Birthday, Robert.
An oldie but goodie, when Heather and Robert got engaged, 17 years ago.
A family picture when they were visiting Trujillo in August.
Doing what he loves.
