A Visiting General Authority & Huanchaco Beach

Yesterday Bill and I were asked to officiate the 11:00 session at the temple.  Then President Casos told us that we would have a visiting General Authority in that session, along with his  wife, daughter and son-in-law.  The word must have gotten out because that session was filled to capacity.  President Casos and his wife also attended.  Our visiting authority was Elder Juan A. Uceda of the First Quorum of the Seventy.  He and his wife live in Lima but
I recognized him from General Conference as soon as he walked in.  It was a little intimidating but he was very warm and gracious.  It was good to
meet him and he and his wife even speak English, Yay!

(I stole this picture off the internet.)
We went to the mall on P-day Monday to get Bill's hair cut.  We just took pot luck since we didn't know where to go.  Surprisingly, she did a great job and he still has hair.  It only cost $5.00.
Bill with his little hair stylist, Julia.
After the haircut we decided to go to see the beach.  Huanchaco Beach is only about 20 minutes from the temple.  It was overcast that day but we wanted some fish for lunch.  We'll have to get better pictures when the sun is shining.  I have to keep reminding myself that it is winter here.  The temperatures are between 63 and 73 degrees.  It feels great to us but the Peruanos think it is cold  You can see them walking around in sweatshirts and coats.  They even wear boots here when I think sandals would be more logical.  I guess it is a fashion thing.

The Huanchaco Beach Restaurant

Our table overlooking the ocean.  The stuff in the little bowl is called Maiz Paccho.
Very tasty, a cross between popcorn and corn nuts.  I wanted to buy some so they sent
me to the market place.  Found out you have to fry them in oil yourself.  They don't come ready
to eat.  I guess the restaurant fries their own.
Sea Bass & Papas Fritas - very yummy!

One of many buses that run from Trujillo to the Beach.

School is in session since this is winter. The kids
are waiting to cross the street.
They have just caught little crab-like sea urchins.

And of course there are souvenir shops since this
is a tourist area.

A very poor picture of us by the pier.  But we had a fun day.
