Salaverry Ward & Mother's Day (Feliz Dia de la Madre)

On Sunday we went to Church with the Hawses to the Salaverry Ward.  Bill and I had been there on September 6, 2015 but it was the first time for the Hawses.  It was good to see our friends from the temple.  Bill & Wayne were asked to speak in Sunday School for a few minutes about the temple.

We took the taxi to the church but rode the bus home which is always an experience.  It took  30 minutes to get there by taxi, longer by bus with all the stops. Salaverry is a Port City on the beach; cute, quiet & quaint.  We got there before they opened the gate to the church so we had fun taking pictures and enjoying the Plaza before church started. The LDS church is on the square and on the other side of the Plaza is the Catholic Church.

I told them to put the pretty one in the middle so Wayne is moving towards the center.

Capturing Jan taking a picture.  She never wants her picture taken.

Wayne has found his twin.

An Azabache grandson (served a mission in Brazil), Elder Campos from Bolivia,
Hermano Lescano & Elder Paz from Bolivia.  Elder Paz hurt his leg & foot
from falling down some stairs.

The chapel.  Those wooded benches were really hard.

Some people pushing a car outside the church.  Looked like a new car
but it didn't appear to be working.
Some ward children after church.
A sister with her 3 month old baby, Angelina.  Look at all that hair.
Another picture with the Sister Missionaries after church.
The Primary passed out these cute little handmade hearts on a stick
with a piece of candy for Mother's day.

I can never resist taking pictures on the way home, especially from a bouncing bus.

We saw these two Elders walking down the street.  Wayne is waving to them from the taxi.

We rode the bus to the Ovulo (round-about) in Trujillo where we needed to catch a taxi to the Temple.  One taxi refused to take us because it was Mother's Day.  We are right next to the Parque Eterno (cemetery) and he wasn't going anywhere near it.  We found out what he meant when we got closer to home.

The Peruvians really honor their deceased relatives and they come to the cemeteries on holidays to celebrate with flowers, lunch, stories, etc.  The traffic was crazy.  We told our taxi driver to let us out at one point and we walked the rest of the way.  Extra flower vendors were set up for the day as well as food vendors.

The guard house at the corner of the temple lot.

Some of the missionaries really took advantage of the crowds.  They were there in full force passing out cards and talking to people about the church.  What a great day to share our knowledge of eternal
families.  Hope they got lots of referrals.

Elder Heward & Elder Manley

This young man came with the missionaries from La Esperanza to help pass out cards.
He is only 14 but plans to serve a mission.

We ran into the Mason family from Mesa, Arizona visiting with the Elders on the street.  They had tried to get onto the temple grounds to walk around but security was extremely tight and they weren't letting anyone in.  Wayne and Bill told them we would talk to the guards and see if they could come in with us for a few minutes. Wayne had the guard call Pedro, the temple recorder, to make sure they had permission to be on the grounds.

Max, Nicole, Brian & Marlee Mason.

Marlee served her mission in Peru.  She went home two days after Christmas and had brought her family back to see Peru.  Marlee had been one the the tour guides for the Temple Open House and even gave a tour to the President of Peru.
