Events of the Week

On P-day we went to lunch at Chong Wha with the Fackrells and Hawses.  It is very good chinese food.

Afterwards Bill and I went to the Real Plaza mall, which is farther from the temple than the mall we usually go to.  On a whim, before shopping, we decided to check CinePlanet Theatre to see if they had any movies in English (they hardly ever have movies in English). We discovered that not only were they showing Captain America in English but they had a newly remodeled Prime Theatre with reclining seats and waiter service.  The seats cost 20 soles each ($6.00).  Regular seats are 5 soles ($1.50).  The Prime Theatre had only been open for 4 days and we watched the movie 4 days before it was released in the United States.

They only have movies in English for about one week, when a blockbuster first opens.  The last one was Star Wars at Christmas time.  So we told the Hawses about it and they went the next day. Here are some pictures we both took of the theatre. There were about 10 people in our movie and about 40 in the Hawses. We all loved it.  You would never have known you were in Peru.

After the movie we found these cute critters in Plaza Vea.

On Friday night the Palermo Stake was having a Musical Concert to celebrate Mother's day.  There are a lot of talented youth in this area and we have gotten to know several of them.  They are very special young men and women who will do much to help build up the church here in Trujillo.  It was a very nice program with videos during their performances as well as pre-recorded interviews with each one that they showed before the performed.

These two young men are Diego Quintanilla (16) and Joel Haro (17).  They are best friends. About 5 years ago they taught themselves to play the piano from the Internet.  They get all their music from the Internet and play off their iPads since they can't find good music down here.  They spend all of their free time going to the church and practicing.  Both come from good Mormon families and plan on serving missions.

They both played two numbers and then a duet.
Joel played the music from UP and they showed clips from
the movie on the screen as he played.

They are both great musicians but when the boys play together
it is fantastic.

This is Josue Valdivia.  He is a returned missionary and works in the temple.  He is a fine young man and his father is the Stake President.

Josue and his girlfriend Monica.

The Vega family.  Axel and Ahman performed on the piano and violin.  Axel has her mission call to Guadalajara, Mexico.  She is been working in the temple until she leaves on her mission in June.  Her brother is 16.

On Saturday, May 7th, our sweet little granddaughter, Abby,  celebrated her 12th birthday.  She was our 4th grandchild and our first little blonde.  From the time she was a baby she had a special bond with my Dad, her Great Grandfather.  He died when she was 4 years old.

Her full name is Abigail Marie Hartman.  She is beautiful, talented, and smart.  We are so glad to have her in our family.  Happy Birthday sweetie, we love you.

I forgot to post this picture from Heather's family photo shoot earlier this year.  They are such a cute family.  Love this one in the snow.

I just love Alpaca and Llamas so I had to borrow these pictures from the Marler's blog.  They drove to Cajamarca with the Assistants on P-day and ran into this Alpaca herd.  The owners let them pet and play with them.  So cute.
