Missionary Apartment Checks / Buenos Aires

On Thursday we went with the Zone Leaders of the Porvenir Zone to check missionary apartments. We went to Laredo, Porvenir and Rinconada. We always enjoy doing this as we are able to interact with the wonderful Elders and Sisters serving here in Trujillo.  It also gives us a chance to see some other areas and neighborhoods in Peru.  Of course there were many Kodak moments along the way. We checked 7 Elders apartments and 2 Sisters apartment.
We picked up the Zone Leaders at their apartment.  We never
would have found the other apartments without their help and the
help of our wonderful taxi driver, Joel. The streets aren't marked
that well and the addresses are not always posted.
These guys were great and it was fun spending time with them.
Elder Suarez is from Lima and Elder McEwan is from McKinney, Texas.
Joel with his taxi came out blurry but he was so patients and helpful to us
all morning.  Joel is not a member of the church but he loves the missionaries
and is one of everyone's favorite taxi drivers.  He has hauled many
missionaries over the years.
This is the zone leaders apartment building.  They live on the 2nd floor on the left.
There was this huge hole in front of the building.
Joel barely missed it.

Heading to a location to sell peanuts, a bag for 1 sol.

A group of preschool children on the square in Laredo.
We saw this lady getting her hair done on the street, literally.

A Porvenir street.
Waiting outside a missionary apartment for them to come to the door.
We had to walk down this narrow alley to get to another apartment.

On Sunday we went to church in Buenos Aires, near the beach.  We didn't get many pictures of members this week.  We arrived about 10 minutes before the meeting and there was only one man and the Bishop there.  By the time they finished passing the Sacrament the chapel was full.

This is Rafael, the first one to come to church.
He told us he has been a member for 4 months and wants to come
to the temple in a year. He used to live in Seattle and Alaska
so speaks really good English.  He was excited practice his

English with us.
After church we decided to walk to the beach to see the ocean before catching the taxi for home. Unfortunately, we didn't know there would be a huge rock wall making it impossible to see the ocean.  There is really no beach here, just rocks, but many people climb the the large rocks and sit to enjoy the view.  We weren't really dressed for that but we had and young man take a picture for us from the top.

While walking several blocks to the beach we ran into a parade.  They were playing music and dancing.  We weren't really sure what they were celebrating but it was fun to watch.

Pikachu was even there.

It was a beautiful sun-shiny day, as usual.  Every day is really the same in Trujillo.  The sun comes up the same time everyday and goes down the same time every day.  We live close the the equator. The temperature never varies more than about 10 degrees for any season.  It never rains.  We have only felt a few drops the whole time we have been here.  It is usually overcast in the mornings and sunny in the afternoon.  It feels like groundhog day everyday.  But we really enjoy our walks whether there is a beach to look at, going to the mall or around the temple or surrounding areas.

Pato (duck) and Cuy (guinea pig) sold here for lunch.

Bill bought this little guy an ice cream cup.
Back home in Utah, Heather took Sadie to Comic Con.  I'm not really sure what it is all about but it seems to be big deal all over the country.  Sadie had a great time and even dressed in her cosplay. Cosplay is a performance art in which cosplayers wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character.  Sadie was Undyne from a game called Undertale.  She had a great time.  Here are come pictures she took with other cosplayers.

Little Max had run out of his favorite balls.  He loses them or hides them.  You can only get them at Petco and have to drive to Ogden to find the closest Petco.  Heather is busy so we had a package of five sent to him in Providence.

Opening his mail
A new ball - at last.

And in conclusion, I found this cute Pickles comic strip that fits us to a "T".  I just love my sappy Hallmark movies and popcorn; Bill, not so much.
