We shared a taxi with Jan and Wayne to the airport. They were heading back to the US for the two weeks the temple was closed. They left on the same plane Heather, Robert and kids came in on. It was fun to have them wait with us and meet our kids and grandkids.
Our little taxi driver, Bishop Pedro. |
They still look pretty perky after 24 hours on planes and in airports. |
Little Max had to stay home with Aunt Linda and Uncle Don in Morgan, Utah. Here he is waiting for Don to come home and play ball. |
On Thursday morning we went to the Plaza de Armas and rode the double decker bus for an hour tour to give them the feel for Trujillo. Then it was lunch at Chili's and another bus ride to Huanchaco to see the ocean and beach.
We ran into the office missionaries in Chili's so we bought their lunches. You can see us at our table behind them.
The kids enjoyed the beach and Heather had fun collecting rocks to use in her office back in Logan.
On Friday, Pedro picked us up in his taxi along with one of his friends since we needed two taxis, and took us to Chan Chan, Squalos for lunch and the Peruvian Paso Horse show.
Heather and Robert transported 2 large suitcases with shirts and ties in them to give to missionaries here in Trujillo. One of the young men from Cache Valley did this for his Eagle Scout project. She gave some to Pedro to give to young men in his ward since he is a Bishop in La Esperanza.
Chan Chan is Chimu ruins which date back before the Incas in Machu Picchu.
This was our third time going to the Paso Horse Show so we have posted about this in earlier posts but this time we get to include pictures of the family.
On Saturday morning we did a temple session with Heather and Robert at 8:30 AM and then Sadie and Micah were able to do baptisms. We walked to the mall for lunch at Pardo's Chicken, stopping at Lamanita's for some temple souvenirs. After lunch the kids enjoyed playing games at Coney Park.
Saturday evening, President and Sister Tapia from the Este Stake came to the Albergue to pick up the shirts and ties Heather had brought to Peru. He has over 70 missionaries serving from his stake right now with many more ready to put in their papers or waiting for their calls. He was thrilled to be able to help missionaries in his stake as well as share them with other stakes.
For Church on Sunday, we rode the bus and walked to the Los Cedros Ward which is the closest ward to the temple. Robert is the primary chorister in his ward in Providence so we all went to Primary. He shared a video of his Senior Primary singing a primary song and then recorded the Peruvian Senior Primary singing some songs to share with his kids back home.
After church we took pictures in front of the temple, ate lunch, played games and got ready for our next adventure. This was the end of our time in Trujillo as we left for the airport at 6:30 AM the next morning.

We even saw several pelicans enjoying the sun. |
